Thanks for checking in! We’ve been hard at work preparing some annual reporting and updates that will support further growth of disc golf. Stay tuned for more in the next few months!
In the meantime, what feels most important to you all?
I used to use Disc Golf Course Review to score my rounds and keep track of courses played. One of the goals I’m working toward is playing all the courses in my home state. I would love to be able to get a summary of my courses played and uplayed by state and country. I’d also like to be able to search by state and country, and when those filters are being used, to get the quantity of search results. (145 courses total)
I would love to see an apk or app made available for integration with other smartwatches besides garmin - such as Zepp (Amazfit) and WearOS (TicWatch, OnePlus, Pixel).
If I could add just one thing, it would be watch throw tracking support. I want that blue button.
Also social features and practice modes, but meh, the blue button for watches is way more meaningful. You have literally all the functionality built already. It’s just a UI thing at this point, surely?
Something has changed internally I think. A few months ago I received an email wanting to schedule a zoom meeting with someone from uDisc. I scheduled it, took the day off from work because I felt like I had a lot of good opinions and information being a TD, run a few leagues and manage 2 courses. I was on the call waiting for it to start. 2 minutes after it was to start I received an email saying they had to cancel, sorry etc. wanted me to send any ideas or feedback I had in email form. So I spent the next hour putting together all of my notes. Never even received a reply and that was the end of it. There has been request in this forum for 3 years with tons of responses that always get the same “ we aren’t working on this but may in the future”.
And yet, the app is definitely improving over time. Slowly.
There’s not a lot of competition unfortunately. Nothing lights a fire under a company like someone else snapping at your heels. Udisc doesn’t currently have that, so everything will be very, very slow. They’ve also built a huge lead with the user generated course directory, which effectively stops them from ever having decent competition unless someone is able to do some AI shenanigans.
I’m pretty pessimistic. I really want throw tracking on my watch, but I think we’ve got at least a couple of years to wait before that happens. If it happens this side of 2030 I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Hey Matt, really sorry to hear this was your experience. We are a small team dipping our toes into many pieces of work, but regardless I don’t love to hear that you took the day off of work to find this meeting cancelled. Not sure who it was you were scheduled to talk to, but please feel free to email me at help@udisc.com and reference this conversation.
I think one of the most valuable updates, especially to users in areas with highly variable seasonal weather (snow, rain, wind, etc.), are improvements to the course conditions field, including:
Mandatory description and/or detail check boxes when listing conditions as “fair” or “caution”
Previous condition history to see conditions feedback from multiple users
Ability to add pictures to show general conditions or specific issues
“Confirm” or “Update” prompt for conditions, rather than just overriding previous conditions
