How to properly track disc distance during a round

I’ve been using the app for around a year now and I’ve tried to use the “track shot” feature during a round to get more “stats” of each round. IE able to hit C2, distance of discs… etc.

I can never figure it out. I’ve tried the to watch the demo video but its from a MUCH MUCH earlier version of the app that doesn’t work.

I’ve turned GPS on, track my distance, etc. But at the end of a round if I switch to a new hole it doesn’t count my shots.

Thanks for help.

Hi CJ!

I am sorry to hear you are having some trouble with that. It sounds like maybe you aren’t completing each hole. It is necessary when scoring this way that you hole out at the end of each hole. This can be by tapping the basket, or by tapping the plus sign and indicating that the final throw landed ‘in the basket.’

If I misunderstood the issue, or it seems to be something different, please reach out to us at help@udisc.com. If you could send along any screenshots or screen recordings of what you are experiencing, that would be helpful as well.

The bouncing back and forth between using the blue “Record throw” and orange + and “Basket” is a bit counterintuitive.

Having a single “+” which them allows you to select the disc thrown and track it would be great. When ending in the basket, I never get the putt tracked, so having the app intuitively understand I made a putt and could get putting stats with specific discs that don’t mess with my longer throw averages would be amazing.

I’m unsure if I’m een using this all correctly due to the number of conflicting UI controls on the round setup, the shot recording, and score counter.

Thanks for your response here! When map scoring, the proper way to hole out is to tap on the basket. This indicates that your final hole landed in the basket. That will complete the hole for you. The orange + button is simply an alternative to tapping on the basket.

Can you give me a bit more information about what change you are looking for here? Or where you are seeing that this doesn’t contribute to your putting stats? As long as every hole is properly holed out using one of the available ways to do so, the putting stats will be added to your You tab.

After any throw, including the throw that landed in the basket, you can tap on the blue ruler icon to add the disc you threw and save it to your list of throws.

Thanks for the response!

I had been trying to track putts and only discovered the ability to end by pressing the orange “+” then choosing “basket”. When you tap the ruler after that, it calculates the previously recorded throw instead so if you threw a 100 ft approach, the putt will also be 100 fy.

I used the method you detailed today and it worked much better. The touch target of the basket is not always mappable if you get the approach too close, so I ended up having to use the orange “+” method but couldn’t get accurate distances.

The mixture of inputs and unclear way they work together leads to tough tracking. Additionally, if you use the Apple Watch app or don’t lock your screen when putting your phone away, you’ll easily get additional shots added or tracked because of how sensitive the touch is, leading to having to readjust shots. It’s unclear how to move a shot pint, so we end up running back through the hole to log all of the shots again extending play times.

Since shots can’t be tracked on the watch, we end up spending a bunch of time pulling our phones to track the shot and miss throws which leads to looking for discs longer. It’s be awesome if this was streamlined for the Watch with a simple tap the “+” and choose the disc you used.

Thanks for all that feedback. I will be sure to pass it along to the team. We especially know how great it would be if the watch app could do more when it comes to tracking throws and stats. Unfortunately an update like that is more complex than it might seem and isn’t currently on the near-term roadmap. But we track all feedback and will keep all of this in mind for possible future updates.

I hope they will focus more on UI and rubber meets the road improvements and less on social networking. UDisc is a really good scorekeeping tool and a decent practice tool. Its pretty good at measuring throws and keeping granular stats but there are lots of areas for it to improve.

It could easily just automatically ask (when in throw tracker mode) what disc was used, and automatically intelligently reorganize the list so that the most often used discs appear at the top. (Since most people have 5-6 that they throw a lot and the rest are for special cases)

It could also in practice mode allow groups of more than 5 shots from the same range and multiple rounds from the same range. (I often practice in a location that is space limited and you can’t get back more than about 20’ from the basket. So I might throw 100 20’ putts and want to track that in groups of 10 since I own 10 putters. ) Flexibility is nice.

These are the improvements that help folks.
