One player played +10 in the first event and got a +5 Handicap for the second event. Shouldn’t it be -5 or something like that?
@elotime thanks for asking! A few questions here. Did this event actually run or were you just inputting scores to test things?
I see that the player that scored a +10 shows 8 birdies and a score of 21 on hole 9. They way that handicaps function, the model compares performance on each hole not just your overall score. Because this player scored a 2 (birdie) on every hole, it’s assumed their level is fairly high. The 21 was accounted for, but if a player scores a birdie on every hole, it would outweigh this. If this was a test of the system, it honestly wouldn’t perform as you would expect because a score like was inputted for “Sarah” doesn’t seem real.
If you do want to test this, I would suggest trying to include more normalized scoring for that player -.e.g, maybe they score a 3, 4, and 5 on most holes?
@jenn
As the name of the league suggests it’s indeed just a test and the scores are made up. Well thanks for the inside that it`s looking at hole scores and not only the final score. Is there any official documentation how it is calculated? We wanted to introduce it into our league but when we look at the “How today’s event would have looked like” We saw some unexpected handicaps. I saw a -6 handicap on a decent player who had some bad weeks. And then he played +3, net -3 which would have been winning score on that 9 hole layout every week.
@elotime makes sense! This is the best place to find all you need to know about Handicaps Leagues on UDisc. The “How does UDisc calculate player handicaps” section is probably the best place to send your league members if you want to give them some insight on how these work.
If you are planning to run this with your league, make sure to delete these past events or create a new, separate league as the past data from these events will be factored into future handicaps for players in this league.
