Udisc over estimates walking distance in Miles, based up GPS measurents by a mile

I’ve been keeping track of my walking distance (steps and Miles) using the app.
At the same time I use a GPS tracking map also, and the difference can be large. Today, Udisc said that I walked 6,946 step or 3.4 miles, while my GPS shows only 2.1 miles. I’m 5:10" and 71 years old and my average step stride is about 2.15 feet. How do I make an adjustment to correct this error. (and why don’t you use GPS measurement in you “tracking” function?)

Hey @rickfunk, thanks for contributing here!

There is no way to make an adjustment at this point. To help explain how we reach this number, we calculate the mileage based on your step count. This helps our team calculate a more accurate step count that’s closer to your phone’s GPS distance, though not perfect. It seems like your steps/miles rate is beyond the standard calculation used, and it’s possible your GPS underestimated the number of miles walked as well.

The addition of tools like “Map my round” can help calculate step counts more accurately as well, though this is a new tool and we hope to gather more data as more members use it.

In short, it doesn’t appear there is an issue with the calculated steps but is something our team will dig into with future improvements!
