Offline downloadable course map

When visiting courses with bad cell signal, it would be nice to be able to pre-download an image instead of the phone attempting/failing to update it constantly. When visiting a remote course this summer my phone would sometimes load the satellite image but more often it was greyed out.

Hey @abaker,

Thanks for your feedback! You can preload the layout/create your scorecard before you head to a course with limited cell service. This should eliminate any trouble you having getting the map to load once you’re already at the course.

If you have any trouble with this, please let us know!

I’d like this also; a cached map, does not need to be satellite. For example Watoga state park course is in the NRQZ, so unless you memorize it before you drive there, it’s impossible to load because well, cellular is federally banned. Technically there are a few courses in the NRQZ. ANYTHING offline would be helpful.

Hey @vanadaar, are you able to create a scorecard while you still have service? If you do so, once you get to the course you will have access to the layout map and it will be available on your device. Does that not work for you?

While pre-planning for a specific course works, it limits spontaneity. What if I decide to play a different course within the NRQZ on the way, or spontaneously once I’m already there? Without pre-loaded course data, I’m stuck unless I can find Wi-Fi.

A solution would be a caching feature, similar to offline maps, allowing users to store a limited number of courses or even a whole region’s worth of data. This would provide access to maps, pars, layouts, and ratings even without cell service, enabling a smoother and more flexible experience.

What we typically resort to when spontaneously deciding to play is to just keep it on paper or keep app then adding to udisc once back in service, but that is less than ideal, and not helpful to folks that have never played the course before.

I had problems while I was camping and disc golfing in an area with spotty connection. Not an everyday problem.
