Can we get a way to link/group people up so they will stay together when cards are randomly generated?
Use case: Father and Son playing in a league. Random cards are generated; currently, the league director then needs to manually move people around in the cards interface.
Example: 3 cards are created with 5 players, Father is on card 1, Son on card 3. LD now needs to move a person out of card 1 to move the Son in to keep him with the Father.
It would be great to link the father and son together in some easy way so that when the cards are generated, the system respects that link during card generation.
This would also be great in cases where friends want to play together but we want to fill the rest of the card with randoms.
I like this idea. I have a father/son duo in my league and now a couple that want to play together. Would love the randomizer to keep those pairs together so I don’t have to do fake random shenanigans.
We have quite a few situations where players request to be placed on the same card, especially:
Parent and child
Partners
Someone playing a league with a friend for the first time
A new player who feels more comfortable having a buddy with them
There can be different reasons for this. A child may be too young or inexperienced to play on their own, a partner may feel more comfortable having someone familiar with them when joining a league for the first time, or an experienced player may be bringing a friend who is new to the league and wants an easier introduction.
Currently, when cards are randomly generated, I have to manually manipulate the cards afterwards to accommodate these requests. This can become quite time-consuming, especially when moving players between cards to make room while still keeping the cards balanced.
I think a simple “link players” or “keep together” option would solve this very nicely.
For example, before generating the cards, the league director could mark:
Father + Son → Keep together
Player A + Player B → Keep together
When the random cards are generated, UDisc would treat those players as a single unit for the purpose of card generation, while still randomly filling the remaining spots with other players.
Ideally, this could be configured for each league round/week before generating the cards. That would give the league director control over the specific requests for that particular round without permanently changing the players’ settings.
The goal isn’t to give players complete control over who they play with. It’s simply to let the league director define a few necessary pairings or groups that should remain together while allowing UDisc to handle the rest of the card generation randomly.
For league directors running regular events, this would save a significant amount of manual card manipulation every week.
