Does Udisc app use GPS or Glonass

I have an Android phone that does Glonass, but when I’m measuring a throw, it says ±10’. My GPS app shows Im connected to over 15 satellites, so I thought the accuracy would be higher. Gpa will do 3 or 4, Glonass a whole lot more.

We display whatever accuracy value Android reports to us, so you would see a similar value in any other app that reports the accuracy reading from Android’s location provider.

I’ve never seen accuracy that good on my iPhone. ±16 seems to be as good as it gets.

For iPhone +/- 16 ft (actually 5 meters) is the best accuracy that iOS will report. In reality, the accuracy may be higher, but the system will not report a better accuracy than that to UDisc.

Android varies more depending on the chipset. Like Scott said, we just show whatever the various systems provide.

Hi, I’m here with a simple explanation. Mobile phones are simply incapable of achieving high GNSS accuracy. This is because they rely mainly on basic time measurements to calculate the distance between the satellite and the receiver (phone).

For example, an error of just 0.0001 seconds, when multiplied by the speed of light, results in a distance error of about 30 km.

Modern geodetic methods use more advanced techniques and corrections to achieve precise measurements, often reaching sub-centimetre-level accuracy.

There are also many other factors involved in the calculations that make mobile GNSS inaccurate, so changing the type of satellite system will not significantly improve the result, nor will the number of satellites. If you want more info, feel free to contact me

Thanks for all the very informative answers, much appreciated. Sounds like I get what I get it, and I should be happy. It doesn’t sound like hooking up my Garmin Glo would help with more accurate distance measurements either. I’ve got stakes in my pasture, so I know exactly how far I’m throwing. I’ve been walking back and forth until my phone gives me the correct distance and then saving the throw so I get a more accurate record.

Thanks again everyone!
