Discmania Astronaut 12 6 -4 1 What direction should it turn

I just added the above disc to my slowly building collection because I didn’t have a single disc that turned right. My brain said the numbers should result in a right turn.

I took it out today and it consistently travelled very straight while at speed and had a large turn to the left for the last 3rd roughtly. I throw Right Handed Back Hand.

Am I reading those numbers completely wrong or is it just that I’m not throwing it hard enough or getting enough spin??

I’m no beast (yet) and 80m / 260ft is my limit last time I measured. Is it simply that the 12 is too much for me which it realistically is - I think I’m more an 8/9 for my speed so far.

I’ve got frozen shoulder currently (long process - Both shoulders to varying ammounts) and can still throw back hand fine but forehand with any force at all hurts like hell so thats a future development - I only use short forehands with a putter getting around trees.

That disc is probably too big for you. I throw about 260ft too, and don’t get any extra distance out of throwing anything bigger than a 9 speed. I probably don’t really need to throw anything bigger than a 7 speed tbh.

Check out the Innova Mamba, it’s one of the discs I get the most consistent distance with.

Try the westside underworld. That’s a great beginner understandable disc that will go right. Another one to try is MVP signal. Stay away from high speed discs until you can throw lower speed discs right.

Also if your nose is up when you release it will not go right. It will stall out and fade hard. If you can see the top/front of the disc after you release it, that’s nose up.

Plenty of youtubes will explain how to do this, “pour the coffee” or grip adjustments, or my personal favorite is the hitchhiker/supinate your follow thru.

I know its too fast for me but I expected it to go right but the nose up thing is very very likely. There is one hole I play here that is front a small hill and I definitely threw the discs down more and that disc went very straight with if anything a slight rightward turn so that’ll be it. My speed combined with an abvious tendency to release nose up. I guess I need to start throwing at a park and focussing on the release as at present every now and then I throw and the disc climbs and climbs into the tree tops which I blame on the wind but it’ll be more my release combined with wind making it worse. I’ve been playing for 18 months and I really only ever go to a course and play - I don’t do anything to experiment and I think its time for change. I’ve been meaning to go to some training sessions run at a local course on Sundays and I think its past time.

Yeah it is too big - I got it for the turn figuring it would still have a tendency that way but obviously my lack of power and by the sound of it a nose up release is hurting me. I mainly use an F5 Seppo Paju edition as my main driver/fairway but I’ve now got a Saint which is getting my a nudge more and the astronaut is going a tiny bit further still but its turn is less predictable. Good on very open shots but don’t use it for much else yet.

I’ve heard the Mamba is a good disc and it has better numbers for me with the 11 a little high but not quite as far out of my power range as the 13.

The Mamba is too big for me too, really. But when I actually get the nose down and release the disc properly it just … goes. So I keep throwing it, chasing that 5% chance of an epic result.

Its interesting. With the comment on the nose angle and adjusting to the disc I’m loving it. Still not getting any right turn but its a lot straighter then it was and its predictable and is getting me longer drives than any of my other discs even with the turn.

I’ve just scored my best on one of my regulars and 2nd best by a point on my most regular course so I’m stoked as I seem to have climbed another rung on the ladder.
