In the Disc bag in the app, you can sort by Name, Type, Color, and Dist. I can see a few scenarios where you might want to temporarily sort by name, color, or distance. However, I think the most useful sorting option would be by pure flight numbers. The closest you can come is to sort by Type. Within each Type (Distance, Fairway, Midrange, and Putter), discs seem to be sorted by Speed first. So far, so good. But then, the app sorts discs of the same speed by the alphabetical order of the name. Why? That’s not useful at all. If I want to look at all of the discs I own (or I’m bagging) based on manufacturer for some reason, I can quickly sort by Name. But when I’m deciding which discs to include in my bag for a round, I base that on the flight numbers. The alphabetical sorting within each Type doesn’t help to do that.
What I would find extremely helpful is if the Type option (or a new option) sorted by Speed first, but then Glide was the second sorting option, Turn was the third, and then Fade was the fourth. (The numbers should all sort in descending order — from highest value to lowest.) Weight should really be the fifth sorting option. Alphabetical order of the Name should only be used as a sixth sorting option if you have multiple discs where the four flight numbers and the weight are identical. My proposed sort order would mean that higher speed discs are sorted at the top, like the current Type sort. But then with two discs that were both Speed 7, for example, whichever one had the highest Glide number would be listed first. Beyond the first two numbers, the most overstable discs would tend to sort higher due to having a higher Turn number in the third position (e.g., -1 is higher than -4) and a higher Fade number in the fourth position. That seems logical to me.
I actually tried my own workaround by adding the flight numbers to the front of the name field and then just sorting by Type. For example, I entered “7|5|0|2 — Innova Star Teebird” as the name. That kind of works. But having to enter the flight numbers into the name field is a bit redundant since the flight numbers are already listed for each disc. Plus, understable discs of the same speed get sorted higher this way because the text is being sorted by ascending value — unless you reverse the direction of the Type sort. But that puts putters at the top, which also seems backwards! The app just really needs better sorting.
One other disc bag thing I noticed that seems strange is also related to disc Type. Fairway, Midrange, and Putter discs all get the corresponding word added in front of the flight numbers. But the word “Distance” isn’t added to the front of the flight numbers for that type of disc. That just seems inconsistent to me.
