Have you ever finished a windy round and been frustrated that the calmer wind at the end of the round is posted? I recently finished a round in Colorado with 30 mph “gusts” according to a fairly reliable weather app. The wind at the end of the round? 8 mph…
. Two suggestions (1 might be tricky):
- Create a wind standard for a round (either measured and averaged taking gust highs and lows or another formula similar to the round rating formula that is used: like measure the wind at holes 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 - when I say holes, maybe it’s the time - and give a better average).
- Create a wind handicap. We all watch the pros on a windy day and see their scores rise with big wind struggles. Create a formula (again similar to round rating) that measures the average wind during a round and perhaps gives a “suggested” handicap rating or “wind effect” score. Perhaps this can be helped by some beta players who test out during a windy round…
All, I know is that sometimes, I go out in my Colorado high plains to play and the wind discourages me because I know it will have a severe effect on my play and my rating. I’d like something that can note that my scores might be higher or impact my handicap because of the wind.
