Export of participants no longer provides email addresses?

Hey Team,

I’ve been running my local monthly for the past 15 months and have always downloaded participant email addresses after each event to add to my mailing list. However, this month when I clicked “Download” on the participants page, the CSV no longer contained email addresses.

Is this a change on your end, or is it specific to certain event types (league vs. tournament)?

As a TD, having access to participant email addresses is crucial for maintaining engagement and growing the event. I prefer to manage my own email communications rather than using the built-in system, as I send updates to all past participants—not just those registered for the current event. Many regulars appreciate these updates even if they miss a month, and MailChimp allows me the flexibility to format messages in a way that works best for my community.

I love using UDisc to run my events, and I’ve heard from several players that my recap and reminder emails are what keep them coming back. Since starting, participation has grown from around 10 players per month to over 50, and communication has played a big role in that.

If this was an intentional change, is there an alternative way to access participant emails?

For reference, here are some examples of the emails I send:

Looking forward to your insight on this. Thanks!

Best,
Rob

Thanks very much for your thoughtful message, Rob! The UDisc team is investigating some potential solutions for better safeguarding players’ data such as email addresses, and preventing inappropriate usage of league and event messaging tools.

This was an intentional change on our end, and it was somewhat recent, in line with the addition of some new messaging functionalities. You can now send messages to the entire league, not just those who are registered for your current event: How can I send emails and push notifications for my UDisc league or event? : UDisc Support

If you still would rather maintain your own personal contact list separately from UDisc, then asking new members to respond could be a creative way to sign them up for your custom communications. I would encourage you to try out these new messaging tools, and if there’s anything seemingly missing (or that you might prefer how it’s handled in MailChimp), then we would love to know what could be improved!
