For a Weekly dubs league, we use UDisc for check-ins → random Team creation → random card creation.
There is a fairly common problem of people checking in, but not showing. Accidentally, plans changed, whatever. If they’re checked in and teams/cards are created, we may end up with multiple Cali’s.
I’ve proposed a few technical solutions to UDisc team, but also wondering what LD’s have done as a workaround.
Can anyone share how you handle it?
My current workaround is super painful and creates different problems of its own, but you can only do so much with handcuffs on.
- Manual sign-up sheet
- UDisc check-in
- I manually reconcile between the two. Some people sign-in on paper, but not udisc and vice versa.
Some solutions I’ve proposed to UDisc:
- Simple api or urls with url parameters.
- Enable specific time for check-ins, like how registration works (e.g. a 20 min window before event)
- A rotating secret word that can easily be written down physically. players must enter this secret/code to complete self check-in
- Kinda like a private event, but one that’s visible publicly, with check-ins being private.
- GPS geo-fencing. e.g. Only allow check-ins within 1 mile radius
Some of these solutions are insanely low effort. UDisc team, please take this issue seriously, as most of the value of auto team/card creation is negated by the painful manual reconciliation required without basic technical tools.
Thanks!
